Your First Baby Clothes Shopping List: The Things You Might Not Think Of

Neutral baby clothes shopping inspiration featuring a wooden drawer filled with neatly folded newborn outfits, soft baby blankets, knitted toys and natural accessories, perfect for a first baby clothes shopping list.

Shopping for your first baby is one of those things that feels so exciting until you realise just how many tiny clothes there are to choose from.

It's easy to get caught up in the cute outfits, but when it comes to your baby's first few weeks, it's often the little details that make the biggest difference.

A few things worth thinking about before you shop:

  • Don't buy everything in newborn size. It's tempting to fill the drawers with tiny outfits, but you won't know exactly what will fit until your baby arrives. Have a few smaller pieces ready and leave room to size up.
  • Think about the changing, not just the outfit. Those beautiful outfits are lovely, but you'll quickly appreciate clothes that are easy to get on and off, especially during the night.
  • You might not need as many outfits as you think. Babies spend a lot of their early days in comfortable everyday clothes. A smaller wardrobe of pieces you love and actually use can be far more practical than drawers full of outfits.
  • Keep a few things aside for the memories. Your baby's first outfit, the little hat you brought them home in, or the romper they wore to meet their grandparents. You never know which ordinary-looking piece will become something you treasure.

And perhaps the best advice? You don't have to get everything right before your baby arrives. Some things you'll be glad you bought, others you won't use at all, and you'll figure out the rest as you go.

Lots of love,
